Was being an art teacher always what you wanted to do?
No – I thought about it when I was a junior in college but I wasn’t sure because it was going to take an extra two years. I wish I would have had it planned a little better but things worked out in the end.

Why’d you come to GRP?
It is associated with NHA schools and I believe in the need for change in education. I have seen how successful NHA schools can be and I wanted to be a part of that team. My younger two children go to NHA schools and I worked at their school last year as a substitute.

How are you liking GRP?
I like GRP! A great deal! The staff is very supportive and hard-working – those are two things that are essential for me.

What is the reason you wanted to teach art?
Because I love to teach art and it is one thing that I would honestly do for free (if I didn’t have any bills to pay!).

What’s different about GRP that you like?
There is a strong commitment to making sure that the possibility of college can become a reality for our students.

What’s something you’re looking forward to this school year?
Working out some of my lessons! There are so many new things that I want to try!

If you could go one place in the world where would it be and why?
Hawaii – any of the islands or maybe Greece

As a kid what did you enjoy?
Skiing and reading and of course, art

What’s your favorite art project to teach?
Clay but it is also the messiest – poor Mr. John 🙁

Have you ever been in art prize?
No, but it one of my five year goals.

What college did you attend?
Colleges- I needed credits for different things but I graduated with a BFA (ceramics) and AB (art history) from the University of Michigan. I also attended Calvin College, Oakland University, GRCC, and Paradise Valley Community College (Phoenix, AZ)

What’s your favorite era of art?
Ancient Egyptian and Greek are my favorite

How many years have you been teaching?
This is my first year as a certified teacher but I have taught off and on since 1999.

What’s your hometown? fav. thing to do there?
Bloomfield Hills, MI – see my family.

Biggest accomplishment?
I’ve run several half marathons and Calvin College recently bought a painting of mine for their collection. But my biggest accomplishment is my three kids

Biggest fear?
Something happening to my family
