It´s that time of year again, the Advanced Placement Psychology Social Norms project is back. The two-week long project causes the hallways and classrooms at Grand River to turn into a live action science fair.

Social norms are things that happen each day and things people expect to happen each day. Senior Sadie Laughlin, who is currently taking AP Psychology, went to the mall to complete her project. Laughlin had to take one of her friends to the mall and trip right in front of her and curse out loud.

¨I would recommend taking psychology, It’s a lot of work, but it’s still a pretty fun class, and I actually enjoy going to it, beside for the testing days those are awful. But it’s a fun class and I love it,“ said Laughlin.

Another senior, Kylie Barillas completed her project in the hallways of Grand River. Her project was to see if the traffic in the hallway´s would change. The way she did it was to add tape in the hallways to make traffic arrows and see if there was a change in how people walk in the hallways. So next time you see something strange in the hallways it probably someone from AP Psychology completing their project.

“To say that I enjoy teaching Psychology is the understatement of the year! I don’t just enjoy it, I LIVE FOR IT! Psychology is so much fun and I think it is such a valuable learning experience. By learning how our brain works, how society works, and essentially why we do everything we do, we can become more compassionate and understanding people. This leads to a better, brighter future for all of us and I think being understanding in an extremely important life lesson. The things learned in Psychology will improve lives every single day and will carry with students throughout the duration of their lives!¨ said AP Psych teacher Jayme McWain.
