On  Wednesday Nov. 8, the National Honor Society welcomed 48 new inductees into its ranks. The National Honor Society— led by advisers Cassandra Cooper, Tara Truskoski, and Emily Wyble— is open to students who maintain a 3.5 GPA, show leadership, and have good character. NHS members go through an application process in order to be accepted, which includes turning in two letters of recommendation and three personal essays.

The ceremony began with Mrs. Koree Woodward introducing the National Honor Society advisers and then proceeded with the advisers announcing senior Liya Kahsay as National Honor Society President, and senior Abigail Steinmeier as National Honor Society Vice President. Both the National Honor Society President and Vice President then led the new inductee pledge right before the inductees were called onstage to receive their certificate and sign their name on the National Honor Society register.

“It was good to see current NHS members eagerly helping to induct the next generation of NHS members.” said National Honor Society adviser Emily Wyble.

In order to remain in NHS each member must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA, remain in good character, and complete an extra 30 community service hours for each year they are in NHS on top of the 60 community service hours that are required for graduation.
